If you’re anything like me you’ve been dreaming about all the little details of getting married since you were a child. You’ve been thinking of what you’d wear, so to finally be in the moment of choosing your dream dress it could be an overwhelming process. The variety to choose from is unlimited from ballgown to a mermaid, lace, tea length, and so much more. As you walk down the aisle you will be the center of attention with eyes drawn to your dress – no pressure. So, here’s what you can do to alleviate the stress and say ‘I do’ to the perfect dress!
You will want to start your search about 6-8 months in advance to your wedding – in case you want to visit multiple shops, and to leave room for fittings and alterations.
Do your research, and find a few designers and styles you love.
Decide on a budget, and stick to it! You wouldn’t want to fall in love with a dress that’s over your price point. Also, you will need to factor in the cost of alterations, taxes, shoes, and jewelry.
Most shops you will have to make an appointment. If you want to beat the crowd, then go on a weekday at midday rather than a weekend when everyone else decides to go, or just make sure you lock in your appointment time.
Let the salesperson make suggestions. You know the saying a dress may not look ideal on the hanger, but you could try it on and potentially fall in love with a dress you would have never thought of initially.
If you haven’t already picked out your accessories most salons will have shoes or a slip for you to try on with your dress. You’ll want to select or bring a pair of shoes with a similar height to what you plan on wearing your wedding day, so you can see exactly how the dress will fall.
If you find your dress on the first day don’t be afraid to say yes to it. When you know, you know.
